As you can imagine, many things have happened over the last 17 days. We have met some amazing people, seen some amazing sights, accomplished personal goals, experienced daily adventures, and gained a new appreciation for things we have taken for granted daily. It's amazing what a cup of coffee/tea can do to your body/spirit, what a warm 3 min. shower feels like, and how lucky we are to go without. We are being re-centered/focused on what truly drives us, and inspired daily of the same.

Since our last post, we have traveled from The Trees of Mystery in Klamouth, Oregon south to Santa Cruz, California. For those wondering about the math, that is seventeen days, which isn't bad since we average 20-60 miles on any given day-just depends on what tasks or goals we have set in place for the day. Eventually, this will not be a daily factor for us, and we can finally get to the point where we'll set up camp at some point, in some unsure location :-)

10/1-Prarie Creek Redwoods State Park and Trinidad, CA.

10/2-Hombolt, Eureka, Arcata, and Indian Island. We met two amazing folks responsible for some amazing cleanup efforts of the Liscom Slough in Arcata, CA: Pam and Ted Halstead-check out the stories: http://www.arcataeye.com/2010/05/ted-halstead-one-mans-battle-against-armies-of-nighttime-dumpers-–-may-13-2010/ and http://www.arcataeye.com/2012/07/seeking-solutions-for-liscom-slough-dumping-july-8-2012/

10/3-Scotia, Avenues, Stafford, Redcrest, Humbolt Redwoods State Park, Miranda, and Myers Flat. What an amazing day! We rode through the Avenue of the Giants (huge redwood trees) off hwy 101, met three skilled and entertaining cyclist that we had the opportunity to camp with for the night: Roger, Wayne, and Randy. These three men shared their stories with us, smiles, laughs-we look forward to the day that our paths cross again!!! They are naturally, life enriching individuals with just their smile, presence, and enthusiasm.

10/4-Richardson Grove State Park and Garberville. Met a number of cyclers this day, one of which was Adam Hugill. He has spent 15 months on the road cycling the world and is headed to Argentina from Alaska. Check out his Instagram @adamcyclingtheworld.

10/5-Piercy, Leggett: Incredible elevation climb day (for Rebecca)-3.5 miles uphill (steep uphill) for 51 min! This will be one of her many accomplishments of this new lifestyle journey. Eventually she'll look back at this climb as a "speedbump" :-)

10/6-Leggett, Westport, and Fort Bragg. This was the day that our friendship with Iris and Dave Wallace began! We had just popped out of the redwoods along California's north tip, stopped to take a picture of the Northern California Coast when Iris walked over to offer to take a picture of us, and Dave offered us a beer/snacks. We have to say, after all our climbing that day, a beer and snack offerings of cantaloupe and fresh avocado from their tree sounded AMAZING; it was!

10/7-Fort Bragg, MacKerricher State Park and Little River.

10/8-Little River and Gualala Point Regional Park.

10/9-Gualala Point Regional Park and Salt Point State Park.

10/10-Jenner and Bodega Bay

10/11-Greenbrae and South Larkspur. Met up with the inventor of another standup bike: Cyclete to test ride and see if this bike would work better for our world tour. We are still bouncing the idea around...stay tuned.

10/12-Greenbrae and South Larkspur

10/13-Golden Gate Bridge and Half Moon Bay. Late arrival (8pm) to see my cousin and family/friends. We received a warm welcome with neighborly food (fish tacos) and drinks. Super sketchy to drive in the dark on hwy 1, but thanks to the bike routes...it could have been worse!

10/15-Pescadero, Santa Cruz North KOA.

10/16-Santa Cruz to meet up with our friends Iris and Dave Wallace. So very thankful for the hospitality, food, laughs, company, laundry use, warm shower, and a super compfy place to lay our heads!!! And, thanks to their son Nick for allowing us his room to use :-)

10/17-We hung out with our friends as they toured us around their town, showed us some amazing views from the local college UCSC, introduced us to Dave's brother Doug who owns The Food Bin in Santa Cruz, who hooked us up with some items we could use along our journey. If you're in town-I highly recommend stopping in OR you can check out their online ordering. Super great folks! https://foodbinherbroom.com/the-food-bin

If you’re gonna ride through Malibu, do not do it on a Thursday! Thursday is garbage day and you’ll have either receptacles or cars...

Our neighbor, Craig, said that he ran into you at Standish Hickey campground. Glad you made it safely to Santa Cruz and Pam and I look forward to your adventures to come. (Ted and Pam)
